ICE member, Caerphilly Observer has been named Independent Community News Service of the Year at the Wales Media Awards 2017 for the third year in a row!

The Wales Media Awards aim to celebrate and promote great journalism produced from Wales. They are open to all journalists, photographers and camera operators based in Wales who publish or broadcast work of Welsh interest in Wales or further afield.

Publisher and Editor of Caerphilly Observer, Richard Gurner said:

“Winning the category for a third year running is a tremendous honour. A huge thank you to all of our readers, advertisers and supporters.

“The judges’ words in particular meant a lot to us and it is fantastic to get our work recognised by fellow professionals.

“We’re a relatively small team, but together we punch way above our weight in terms of our editorial coverage.”

Judges were impressed with the Caerphilly Observer for the third year running:

“A fantastic example of local news coverage, strong stories, balanced coverage, editorial strength on slim resources. The election special was ambitious, thorough and very good. A shining example of a great local newspaper.”

Congratulations Richard and the team. They’ll be calling it the ‘Caerphilly Observer Award’ in no time!
