Gabriella Holmes, 18, will be jetting off to China on the 13th of May to raise money for Cancer Research Wales in memory of her grandmother. She’ll travel an average distance of 35.5km over 26 hours across the five days.

She’ll arrive in Beijing before transferring to Huangyaguan to begin her gruelling journey along the Great Wall and acclimatise the group to the up and down terrain they will be encountering for the rest of the challenge. From there, they will travel through Gubeikou, Jinshanlng, Mutianyu, Juongguan and Badaling.

Having always wanted to visit Asia, Gabriella said:

“I’m so excited to be travelling to China to take part in this challenge. I’ve always wanted to travel so to start with China is a dream come true. I can’t believe I’ve raised more than my target of £3000 for Cancer Research Wales in memory of my Grandmother, Carol. I can’t wait to experience it.”

Gabriella has smashed her target of £3000, having raised an extra £1600, taking her total to £4,600 -which is still rising!

To prepare for the trekking challenge, Gabriella has been training at the gym and local Welsh mountains.

Companies at Welsh ICE have been getting behind Gabriella with sponsorship, donations and have been -very enthusiastically- enjoying the fundraising bakesales too.

Good luck, Gabriella!
