Last Friday saw the Winners of the 2018 Caerphilly Business Forum Awards announced, in a ceremony attended by almost 300 guests, hosted by BBC Wales news anchor Jamie Owen and held at the Llechwen Hall Hotel.

ICE member Weird Triangle were among those shortlisted and were named Welsh ICE Business of the Year, beating tough competition from Plutus Consultancy, Four Minutes Training, Big Lemon & Jane Oriel.

Weird Triangle offers bespoke design and printing services on a wide range of products from clothing to flyers to gifts and accessories. They aim to create all designs that make you smile, laugh, think, cry, engage and hopefully encourage people to be themselves.

Director Craig Mapstone said:

“Winning the Welsh ICE Business of the Year Award is such a massive deal for us as Welsh ICE, and the ICE community as a whole, have been so important in the ongoing growth and development of Weird Triangle. We honestly wouldn’t be where we are today had it not been for the support, advice and friendship that we have received from everyone here at ICE.

In less than 2 years we have gone from a couple of guys wanting to just design and sell some t-shirts to offering a full design, branding and print service across a wide range of products as well as broadening our scope into other areas of creativity and design.

To have been given this award, and especially from a group of other extremely deserving and outstanding nominees, is a complete honour and means so much to us. While we would love to thank everyone individually who has supported us, collaborated with us and recommended us during our time at Welsh ICE (so far) we wouldn’t want to miss anyone out so to you all we say a massive THANK YOU!”

Unlike other categories in the awards which are based on business size or sector, the only criteria for the Welsh ICE Award is that the entries were from ICE members. With over 160 businesses based in our Caerphilly Campus, this award recognises the diverse range of talent on offer from our members and gives them an opportunity to showcase themselves to other businesses across the County Borough.

Forum Chairwoman Denise Lovering,  said:

“We are continually stunned by the quality of entrants these awards have received year after year, and yet again the judging panel have faced a very difficult task in deciding who the winners will be.

“Each business shortlisted can be extremely proud of their achievements. Their hard work has clearly paid dividends and it is thanks to the businesses and individuals represented at these awards that our region continues to serve as an economic beacon for the whole of Wales.

“On a personal, this year was my last as head of the forum. It has been a true privilege to serve the Caerphilly business community and I look forward to seeing the Forum continue its great work in the years to come.”
